Dr. Rozensky’s colleagues selected him to serve on the Board of Directors, APA Council, and to chair the Boards of Professional Affairs and Educational Affairs, Policy & Planning Board, and the Commission for the Recognition of Specialties and Proficiencies in Professional Psychology. In these roles, his leadership brought about significant changes to our profession including establishing the structure for practice and educational guidelines, planning the first Education Leadership Conference and establishment of the Federal Education Advocacy program, broadening involvement of the education community in the renamed Commission on Accreditation, defining APA’s focus on workforce analysis including funding APA’s new Center for Workforce Study, preparing the Taxonomy for Education and Training, establishing the first agreed upon definition of “specialty” including consistent language describing education and training programs in Health Service Psychology, and initiating the first mandated review of APA governance asking boards and committees to evaluate their work in light of APA’s new strategic plan. As vice-chair of the Good Governance Project, he helped bring about significant changes in APA’s governance structure and processes effecting APA for years to come.

Six APA presidents chose Dr. Rozensky to lead their presidential initiatives resulting in publication of two books, several journal articles emphasizing APA’s science, education, and practice missions, and the addition of “health” to APA bylaws. As a scholar, Dr. Rozensky is the Founding Editor of the Journal of Clinical Psychology in Medical Settings and has published five books and close to 100 articles on education, healthcare, and health policy.

Nationally, Dr. Rozensky represented APA with the Joint Commission influencing its accreditation of hospitals and healthcare organizations by advocating strongly for psychologist membership on hospital professional staffs and for recognition of psychologists as leaders of the healthcare team. As the first psychologist to chair the Federal interprofessional education advisory committee within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Dr. Rozensky advocated for inclusion of interprofessional services during the drafting of the Affordable Care Act and chaired a report to Congress highlighting the importance of psychological and behavioral health in healthcare. An invited participant at the Carter Center, he helped prepare recommendations for the inclusion of behavioral health in primary care.

Dr. Rozensky received both the APA Heiser Presidential Award for Advocacy On Behalf of Professional Psychology and the Cynthia D. Belar Education Advocacy Distinguished Service Award. Among his many honors, APA recognized him with both the Award for Distinguished Professional Contributions to Institutional Practice and the Award for Distinguished Career Contributions to Education and Training in Psychology and, most importantly, he has received teaching and supervision awards from his students at the University of Florida – building Psychology’s future.
