I am honored to run for President of the Society for Health Psychology (SfHP). Division 38 has been my professional home for decades. The SfHP is a dynamic, growing and diverse organization responsible for advancing health psychology as a field, and for promoting the importance and translation of this psychological science. SfHP leadership is essential as we face threats to research funding, clinical training and reimbursement. At the same time, we need to communicate the value of our science, clinical services for children and adults, and relevance to other healthcare providers, funders and the public.

As SfHP President, I would prioritize a collaborative initiative on health psychology in partnership with APA health Divisions, the Association of Psychologists in Academic Health Centers, APA’s Center for Psychology and Health, and other stakeholders. This effort would leverage our collective expertise and resources to advance specific action steps regarding the future of health psychology. Pressing topics include promoting research translation, workforce development to meet the needs of a diverse society, clinical and reimbursement innovations in this uncertain health care market, and technology applications.

Long-standing leadership experience in the SfHP (Chair, Committee on Women’s Health; Council Representative for six years; Chair, Women’s Health Interest Group; etc.), in APA (Board of Directors, Finance Committee, LIWP, CAPP, BPA, etc.), in academic medicine, public health and in the private sector has provided me with the skills and experience to effectively and collaboratively advance SfHP’s mission and future of health psychology.
