Applications are currently being accepted for a position in the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) Clinical Psychology Residency with the emphasis in Psycho-oncology. The general aim of the Postdoctoral Residency Program in Clinical Psychology is to prepare the individual to practice health service psychology independently and master competencies at the advanced level. Residents are required to spend at least 51% of their time in clinical activities; additional training will include research, didactics, and professional development activities. The Resident for the Psycho-Oncology emphasis area specifically will receive innovative training in service delivery and engage in active research programs within OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center (SCC) and Jimmy Everest Center (JEC) for Children with Cancer and Blood Disorders. The Resident in the Psycho-Oncology emphasis area will participate in all didactics required by the Clinical Psychology Residency program as well as didactics specific to the emphasis area. The Resident will also receive mentoring in research and complete a research project. Applicants must have completed their Ph.D./Psy.D. in an APA Accredited Clinical or Counseling Psychology program and an APA Accredited Pre-Doctoral Internship in Psychology. The year-long Psycho-Oncology emphasis area provides advanced knowledge and skills necessary to work within academic and hospital-based cancer treatment settings. Residents will receive supervised clinical experiences in both adult and pediatric oncology clinics, which provides a unique lifespan training experience within cancer care. Fifty percent effort will be spent at the NCI-designated SCC on the OUHSC campus, providing primarily outpatient services to adults receiving treatment for various forms of cancer. Residents will spend an additional 30% of their clinical time at JEC where they will work with families, children, adolescents, and young adults with cancer and blood disorders. Additionally, residents will receive extensive didactic training, participate in professional development activities, work as part of multidisciplinary teams, and conduct research with individuals with cancer and/or blood disorders and their families. Across both adult and pediatric sites, residents will receive training in distress screening, inpatient interventions, clinical interviewing, clinical consultation, and psychotherapy skills, including end of life care. Residents can also complete comprehensive psychological assessments for patients with medical complexities, including those seeking stem-cell transplant. Opportunities for observation of neuropsychological evaluations and feedback with patients with cancer are also available.
