One Postdoctoral Fellowship position is available in our Accredited Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship Program; Adult Psychology track with a concentration in: Adult Acute/Inpatient Psychiatry.

The fellow on the Adult Psychology track will enhance the quality of care provided in Inpatient Psychiatry Services by assisting in the design, pilot, and evaluation of a new Intensive Therapy Program (ITP) across our Adult and Geriatric Inpatient Psychiatry Units, which aims to improve quality of care for patients admitted to our adult and/or geriatric inpatient psychiatry units by facilitating intensive treatment with the goals of crisis stabilization, reduced inpatient length of stay, and reduced readmissions to our Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP) and Inpatient Units.

The fellow will provide direct clinical care on the Adult and Geriatric Inpatient Psychiatry Units, including those patients participating in the Intensive Therapy Pathway. The fellow will also work closely with several multi-disciplinary treatment teams consisting of psychologists, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, social workers, nurses, recreation and creative arts therapists, and mental health therapists in a fast- paced environment. The role of the fellow will include 1) providing acute, intensive treatment to adults and families with the goal of crisis stabilization, and 2) program development and evaluation in acute services, as part of a mentored scholarly project.

The fellow may also have opportunities for supervised teaching and supervision of junior trainees and multi-disciplinary clinical staff. Our fellowship launches psychologists who are highly qualified for careers in patient care, teaching, and administration. Competitive candidates have interests and/or experience with acute inpatient care, interdisciplinary collaboration, and program development.

The URMC APA Accredited Fellowship program typically has 5-8 fellows a year across three tracks. Additional responsibilities for all fellows include participation in professional seminars dedicated to expanding knowledge base and skill development in acute care and interdisciplinary teamwork. The Department of Psychiatry’s Psychology Training Program is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion as core values in our program, with seminars supporting and extending trainee cultural competence and cultural humility.

URMC is committed to building an inclusive culture where trainees and employees feel a sense of belonging, connection, and community within their workplace. Our program is committed to fostering an environment that allows for all to be their authentic selves. We are focused on attracting, supporting, and retaining diverse fellows who can help us deliver on our mission to provide culturally sensitive, person-centered care to individuals and families experiencing psychological distress or mental disorders across the lifespan. Members of underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.
