INTEGRATED CARE FAMILY PSYCHOLOGY TRACK: A Clinical Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship position is available in our Integrated Care Family Psychology track with a Family Medicine/Geriatrics concentration. This position is available within the Division of Collaborative Care and Wellness and while a 1-year program, fellows are strongly encouraged to remain for a 2nd year to develop expertise in specialty care integration. The Fellow’s time is divided between 2 settings: Highland Family Medicine (HFM) and Highland Hospital (HH).
HFM is an urban, primary care clinic providing care to individuals from birth to late life. Here the fellow serves as a consultant and provides direct intervention to individuals and families, many of whom are disadvantaged. Fellows have the opportunity to work with patients presenting with common mental health disorders as well as those adjusting to acute or chronic illness, preparing them for generalist work in a primary care context.
HH is a community-based hospital affiliated with the University of Rochester Medical Center. Here, the fellow serves as an educator to internal medicine residents, and nursing staff promoting increased competence regarding geriatric patient care and late-life transitions in one-to-one and group formats
Fellows can expect to receive specialized training in integrated care, and family systems psychology, including medical family therapy. Fellows have the opportunity to:
1) Maintain a supervised clinical practice with emphasis on integrated primary care and family systems.
2) Be uniquely trained in the URMC Physician Communication Coaching model, and prepared to serve as consultants and educators to medical clinicians to enhance the patient-family-physician relationship.
3) Participate in coursework and professional seminars dedicated to expanding knowledge base and skill development for primary/specialty care psychology and medical family therapy principles.
4) Have supervised teaching and supervision and often partner with Fellowship faculty working on ongoing scholarly projects, clinical quality improvement, and research.
Our fellowship launches psychologists who are highly qualified for careers in patient care, teaching, and administration. Competitive candidates have interests and/or experience with health psychology, chronic and acute illness, and systems theory.
