Society for Health Psychology

Council Focus

The Health Research Council (HRC) works to promote health psychology research, encourage high standards of ethical conduct and rigorous science, reflect and advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in health research, facilitate the application of research to clinical care, contribute to the development of future investigators, enhance the health, wellbeing, and health equity of society, and ensure that the SfHP remains a recognized leader in health psychology research.

HRC Roles

  • Reviewing and selecting Graduate Student Research Awards annually.
  • Co-sponsoring the Health and Behavior International Collaborative (HBIC) Award.
  • Liaising with other APA and SfHP committees as appropriate.
  • Providing strategic recommendations to the SfHP Executive Committee regarding research directions such as recommending eminent researchers for expert panels when requested, serving as the source for review processes, or for input on research-related matters brought to the Society.
  • Publicizing new or surging areas of research in health psychology via the Division’s listservs.
  • Arranging for the publication of announcements and/or articles in The Health Psychologist, on the SfHP website, and the Society’s listservs.

Health and Behavior International Collaborative (HBIC) Award

Along with the International Society of Behavioral Medicine (ISBM), the American Psychosomatic Society (APS), the Society of Behavioral Medicine (SBM), the German Society for Behavioral Medicine and Behavioral Modification (DGVM, or Deutsche Gesellschaft für Verhaltensmedizin and Verhaltensmodifikation), and the International Behavioural Trials Network (IBTN), our Council is happy to co-sponsor the Health and Behavior International Collaborative (HBIC) Award.

The purpose of the grant is to facilitate a mentorship collaboration with an international laboratory or research group under the guidance of an identified international mentor. Please go to this website to learn more about the award!
