The West Virginia University Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute and the Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry in the WVU School of Medicine seek a Clinical Health Psychologist (Bariatrics) qualified for appointment at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor rank. The successful candidate will practice in Morgantown, WV.

 

Duties: The successful candidate will practice in the area of Clinical Health Psychology with specialization in Bariatric Psychology. The successful candidate will have a background/training with bariatric populations and expertise in the behavioral treatment of adults with obesity and related metabolic or eating disorders. The successful candidate will have an understanding of the inter-relationships among behavioral, emotional, cognitive, social, and biological components related to bariatric surgery, obesity, and eating behavior. The position will include clinical, teaching/supervision, and research responsibilities.

 

Regarding clinical duties, the candidate will function as an integral member of the WVU Medicine Medical and Surgical Weight-Loss Center, a MBSAQIP-accredited high-volume bariatric surgery center that offers a comprehensive surgical program to help patients obtain a healthy weight and improve their quality of life. Clinical responsibilities include provision of pre-surgical psychosocial evaluation and intervention for patients pre-and postoperatively; collaboration and consultation with members of the Bariatric Surgery team; and supportive services to the bariatric team with programmatic components. The candidate also has the opportunity to become integrated with the multidisciplinary Medical Weight Management team to provide evaluation, consultation, and treatment to address weight loss goals and health promotion.  Candidates with additional areas of interest and expertise within Health Psychology are encouraged to apply.

 

In addition to providing excellent patient care, the successful candidate will also be actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows.  The candidate will be involved in our well-known, training-focused APA-accredited clinical psychology internship in our Behavioral Medicine Track, and our Clinical Health Psychology-Bariatric Fellowship.  For appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank, it is expected that candidates sustain an outstanding, extramurally supported research program.

 

Qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD or PsyD in clinical psychology from an APA/CPA-accredited graduate program with an APA/CPA-approved internship and be immediately eligible for licensure in West Virginia. For appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank, Board Certification (ABPP) as well as a demonstrated track-record of leadership, clinical and teaching excellence and scholarly activity are required. All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.
