Two adolescents can experience nearly identical spinal cord injuries (SCI) and yet have very different emotional, social, and health outcomes. One may feel hopeful, supported, and confident in navigating life with a disability. Another may feel defined by loss, injustice, or uncertainty about the future. What often distinguishes these experiences is not the injury itself, but how the injury is understood.
