Div38 LIVE – What is Needed Now? Strategies for Primary Care Behavioral Health in Action

Description

Now that we are in a post-pandemic world, several challenges in healthcare across the United States continue to surface. Notably, the pandemic has magnified healthcare disparities in marginalized communities. Additionally, even with the increased focus on behavioral health needs post-pandemic, there continues to be workforce shortages to not only address behavioral health concerns but simultaneously manage medical crises/issues. Addressing both behavioral and physical health within primary care provides the opportunity to positively impact the aforementioned challenges, since integrated, team-based care can help mitigate health disparities, address behavioral health needs, and increase access to whole-person healthcare. While there are different approaches to integrating behavioral health into primary care, the Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) consultation model is one approach that has evolved over the decades and invites team-based care to achieve whole-person healthcare. The focus of this panel presentation is to provide an overview of the specific strategies that contribute to the effectiveness of the PCBH model impacting whole-person care in primary care as well as to discuss how the PCBH model can help address the changing needs of patient populations in the post-pandemic world.
